Project completion period: 2022.-2024.

Project description: At the end of 2024, the reconstruction of the 330-kilovolt power transmission line Valmiera - Tsirguliina was completed, which is one of the most important infrastructure projects for ensuring energy independence for the Baltic States. This line connects Latvia with Estonia and is a crucial prerequisite for the synchronization of the Baltic electricity grid with the European energy system, which is planned for 2025. As part of the synchronization project, alongside the Valmiera-Tartu line completed in 2023, two power lines built in the 1960s–1970s were reconstructed. These lines stretch for 49 km from Valmiera to the Estonian border. The entire old infrastructure was replaced during the reconstruction, including the installation of new supports and wires with a higher capacity, while the route and voltage level of the line remained unchanged. To ensure an more efficient and safe power transmission, the project incorporated the latest technological solutions. To improve the visibility of the power lines and ensure environmental protection, bird diverters were installed using specially adapted drones. The Cabinet of Ministers has recognized this project as a national interest object, emphasizing its strategic importance for the security of Latvia’s energy supply.
